End-of-life vehicles
Vehicles intended for complete scrapping must be handled through the Authorised Treatment Facility route. End-of-life vehicles contain oils, fuel, coolant, batteries and other materials that need proper depollution and treatment rather than informal dismantling.
Reuse before waste
Where safe, lawful and serviceable, reusable components can have a second life. Supplying used parts can reduce the need to manufacture a replacement and may make it affordable to keep an older vehicle on the road. Parts suitability and condition must still be checked carefully.
Paperwork and traceability
Correct vehicle records are part of responsible disposal. Where a qualifying vehicle is completely scrapped, a Certificate of Destruction is issued through the appropriate authorised process. The keeper should also ensure DVLA is notified correctly.
